Dassault Systemes Licence Server

The DS License Server is a central licensing solution developed by Dassault Systèmes for managing product licenses such as SIMULIA Abaqus, CATIA, DELMIA, and ENOVIA. The licensing setup relies on generating a Computer ID from the target system using the DSLicTarget tool. This guide explains how to use DSLicTarget effectively, with details on command options and typical usage.

Download DSLicTarget.exe here!

Command Options and Descriptions

1. Display the Computer ID (-T)

  • The Computer ID is generated based on the system’s hardware configuration and is used for license activation.

  • Format for Physical Machines: 3 characters + 1 dash + 16 characters (e.g., ABC-1234567890ABCDEF) – Format for Virtual Machines: 3 characters + 1 dash + 42 characters (e.g., ABC-1234567890ABCDEF1234567890ABCDEF1234567890)

  • Example command: DSLicTarget.exe -t DSLicTarget (version 1.16) Computer Id: TIY-001AF10B481636DA575F86C8E3E9FAED07F4B5C018 (based on: TPMVersion: 2.0 – Level:0 – Revision:1.15 – VendorID: ‘MSFT’ – Firmware: 538247443.1394722)

Note: This command must be run with administrative privileges in an elevated command prompt.

2. List Available Network Adapters (-L)

  • Displays all active network adapters on the system. This is useful when you want to generate the Computer ID using a specific adapter (see Option 4).

  • Purpose: – Identify network interfaces on systems with multiple adapters – Help ensure consistent ID generation across reboots or deployments

3. Clear Reference Data (-C)

  • Clears stored reference data related to the Computer ID. This includes Windows Registry entries or Linux system files.

  • Use case: – When replacing hardware – When reusing a system for a new license request

Note: Requires administrative privileges.

4. Generate Computer ID Using a Specific Device (-S {DEVICE_GUID})

  • Allows generation of the Computer ID using a specific network adapter, based on its GUID (retrieved with the -L option).

  • Example: DSLicTarget.exe -s {558CBA02-9E12-33F7-49A9-1154BED416A6}

  • This option is especially useful on systems where multiple adapters may cause inconsistent Computer ID generation.

Note: Requires administrative privileges.

5. Display Help (-H)

Displays all available command-line options and basic usage instructions.

Key Considerations for License Deployment

  • Administrator Access Required: Most DSLicTarget commands must be executed with elevated privileges. Failing to do so may result in incomplete or invalid ID output.

  • Hardware-Specific Binding: The Computer ID is bound to system-specific hardware (e.g., TPM, MAC address, firmware), and is not transferable. Changing network adapters or moving the license file to another machine will invalidate the license.

  • Consistency is Critical: On virtual machines or laptops with docking stations, be sure to use the same adapter consistently when generating the ID.

  • Same Process Across Platforms: Whether you're configuring SIMULIA Abaqus on a workstation or deploying CATIA licenses across an enterprise, the procedure for Computer ID generation is identical.
