Man configuring software license settings on a desktop computer.
Adjusting license configuration files is essential when updating Abaqus license servers or switching license types.

In the dynamic landscape of software licensing, companies occasionally transition their Abaqus license servers or migrate from FlexNet to DSLS. These changes require users to update their local license configuration files to ensure Abaqus continues to operate correctly. This post provides a clear overview of where to find and edit the license settings based on your operating system and Abaqus version.

Windows License Settings Paths

  • Abaqus 2016 and Earlier Custom_v6.env Folder: C:\SIMULIA\SimulationServices\V6R2016x\win_b64\SMA\site (Note: Case-sensitive path)

  • Abaqus 2017–2019 Custom_v6.env Folder: C:\SIMULIA\SimulationServices\V6R201xx\win_b64\SMA\site

  • Abaqus 2020 and Later EstablishedProductsConfig.ini Folder: C:\SIMULIA\EstProducts\202x\win_b64\SMA\site (Replace 202x with the correct release year, e.g., 2025 or 2026)

Linux License Settings Paths

  • Abaqus 2020 and Later EstablishedProductsConfig.ini Folder: /usr/SIMULIA/EstProducts/202x/linux_a64/SMA/site

What to Enter in the License File

Once you’ve found the correct file, update the file with your license system and server.

For FLEXnet systems:

  1. Set LICENSE_SERVER_TYPE to flex

  2. Set FLEX_LICENSE_FILE to 27000@yourserver

For DSLS systems:

  1. Set LICENSE_SERVER_TYPE to dsls

  2. Set DSLS_LICENSE_FILE to 4085@yourserver

If the license server runs on the same machine, localhost can be used instead of a hostname or IP address.
