Abaqus/CFD: Flow simulation
Abaqus/CFD provides advanced computational fluid dynamics capabilities with extensive support for preprocessing and postprocessing. These scalable parallel CFD simulation capabilities address a broad range of nonlinear coupled fluid-thermal and fluid-structural problems.
Incompressible laminar and turbulent flow
Abaqus/CFD can solve a broad range of incompressible flow problems using a second-order projection method. An incompressible fluid dynamic analysis is one where the velocity field is divergence-free and the pressure does not contain a thermodynamic component. Furthermore, the energy contained in acoustic waves is small relative to the energy transported by advection. This means that it is only valid for low Mach numbers. Abaqus/CFD is suitable for problems with laminar or turbulent flow. The internal or external flow can be either steady-state or time dependent (transient). Furthermore, the solution is capable to solve flow problems induced by spatially varying distributed body forces.
Thermal convective problems
Thermal convective problems that involve heat transfer and require an energy equation can be solved with Abaqus/CFD. If required the problem may involve buoyancy-driven flows (i.e., natural convection). This type of problem includes turbulent heat transfer for a broad range of Prandtl numbers.
Abaqus/CFD includes the ability to perform deforming-mesh analyses using an arbitrary Lagrangian Eulerian (ALE) description of the equations of motion, heat transfer, and turbulent transport. Deforming-mesh problems may include prescribed boundary motion that induces fluid flow or FSI problems where the boundary motion is relatively independent of the fluid flow.
Coupling with Abaqus/Standard or Abaqus/Explicit
Abaqus/CFD can perform co-simulations with Abaqus/Standard and Abaqus/Explicit.
Abaqus/CFD is used for a diverse set of problems, like atmospheric dispersal, food processing, aerodynamic design of automobiles, biomedical flows, electronics cooling, and manufacturing processes such as chemical vapor deposition, mold filling, and casting.
Abaqus/CFD and Abaqus/CAE
Abaqus/CAE 2016 is the latest release that supports the Abaqus/CFD solver. Abaqus/CFD is supported in the 3D EXPERIENCE platform.
